Existing Conditions

The roadway from Quincy Street to Harrison Street (PCR Score 40) is one of the lowest TIB scored roadways in the City of South Bend that does not terminate in a dead-end. This roadway is one of the important arterials that allows access from the residential neighborhoods on the hills surrounding South Bend to the area referred to as the flats. This provides direct access to South Bends Junior/Senior High School, new Mike Morris Elementary School, and Early Learning Center. This project is one of Citys highest priorities. This project was submitted last year; however, the project has been modified and now no longer includes a retaining wall on the north side of the roadway. This was made possible by moving the roadway to the south within the existing right-of-way.

Description of Improvements

The proposed project will complete a full-depth reclamation of the Broadway Avenue between Quincy St and Harrison St. The right-of-way along Broadway Avenue is 100 feet in width, which will allow a slight jog in the roadway to the south, thereby eliminating the necessity for the retaining wall on the north side of the roadway.
