Existing Conditions

Stanley Street is a major arterial through the City and provides direct access to both residential and commercial properties. Stanley Street is also the most direct route to both enter and leave the City. Intersection control along Stanley Street includes a traffic signal at Jordan Road and the all-way stop at Granite Avenue. All other minor intersections are stop controlled on the minor street. Due to the significant traffic volumes (the City is scheduled to complete traffic counts in late 2021) on Stanley Street, heavy congestion occurs during the morning and evening commute on the various minor streets. Galena Street, which parallels Stanley Street and is located one block south of Stanley Street, terminates at Portage Avenue. Traffic on Galena Street then uses Portage Avenue to access Stanley Street, which can be difficult when traffic volumes are high.

Description of Improvements

This project will extend Galena Street to the west and north, ultimately connecting to the existing signalized intersection at Stanley St and Jordan Rd. This extension will allow traffic on Galena Street the opportunity to access Stanley St at a traffic signal at Jordan Rd versus the stopped controlled intersection at Portage Ave.
