Existing ConditionsThis is one of two access roads from US 12 to the Town of Naches and is the only one that directly accesses the central business district. This vital connector street provides the most direct route to the Town's grocery store, gas stations, and hardware store. A small sidewalk gap in the project hinders a continuous non-motorized transportation system from downtown Naches to the Naches Trail (a portion of the 20-mile Yakima Greenway). The existing S-curve geometry of the roadway limits driver recognition of pedestrians at both Naches Avenue mid-block crosswalks. |

By completing a grind and overlay the Town can prevent degradation of the primary access roadway into the downtown business district. By filling in the small sidewalk gap in the project area near the Naches Train Depot, the Town provides a continuous non-motorized transportation system connecting the Town to the Naches Trail for people of all abilities. This project will remove one of the mid-block crosswalks and redirect all pedestrian crossings to a single location where new rapid flashing beacons will be installed. Existing ramps north of the Naches Trail will be removed and new sidewalk will be extended to the remaining mid-block crossing. ADA ramps will be replaced and upgraded to meet current ADA standards.
