Existing Conditions

Marcy Street is an arterial that provides service to various businesses, residents and public services/facilities. The exisitng street is in very poor condition fromMain Street to 1st Street. The sidewalks are badly deteriorated in various areas. 1st Street at the west end of the proposed Marcy Reconstruction is a primary route to County Buildings and business and has some deterioration issues that need to be addressed. This project is an extension of two recent SCAP project on Marcy and will tie in to a future FHWA project on W. Pioneer.

Summary of Improvements

The project will provide greater pedestrian safety with new sidewalks without trip hazzards and wider grass strip on one side of 1st Street. Maintenace will be greatly reduced with significant savings in the use of cold patch in the winter. The project serves/links for multi-use business buildiings, banks, a library, a large low income senior housing building, multi-family and single family residential and County and City facilities. Installation of curb, gutter and sidewalk, and improvement of the roadway and drainage will also provde improved pedestrian accessibility within the City's downtown core.

Description of Improvements

Reconstruct Marcy Avenue from Main to 1st and 1st Street from Pioneer to Marcy. Sidewalks along Marcy would be replaced using conventional methods with new curb and gutter. Sidewalks along 1st are adequate and will remain. The grass strip along the west side of 1st Street will be expanded to reduce the road width and provide additional pedestrian safety on the Fleet Park side of the street.
