Existing Conditions

McBryde Avenue is a primary pedestrian corridor for the north side of the City. This corridor has pedestrian facilities west of Church Street to link the northwest side of town to the high school but has no facilities or inadequate facilities to serve the northeast areas of the City. The existing McBryde Avenue corridor west of Church Street is very narrow with a 10 foot asphalt lanes and limited shoulder width in many locations. It is very common to encounter pedestrians walking in the narrow roadway. The City of Montesano is a very active community. In addition to the need for safe pedestrian facilities to serve the high school, many residents use McBryde Avenue regularly as a walking corridor throughout the day. The City completed 650 feet of new sidewalk on the west end of the corridor using TIB funding in 2022 and will finish a 700 foot section on the east end in the fall of 2022 using City funds. There is still a 1,500 gap between the two sections.
